Matt Tocco is a beverage director with a style that not only pays homage to the classics but to Nashville’s heritage. Matt Tocco’s steadfast career in the hospitality industry began at The Patterson House in 2009. Opened as a partnership between the Nashville-based Strategic Hospitality group and Alchemy Consulting, The Patterson House helped kick-start the cocktail renaissance in Nashville with its carefully constructed cocktails and house-made ingredients. Here, Tocco received his first introduction to cocktail creation as a bar back before diving into crafting his own creations for the popular speakeasy-style bar. Just three years later, he parted ways with The Patterson House to become the bar manager at Rolf & Daughters in Germantown, where he complemented locally-sourced “modern peasant fare” with drinks that nod to Nashville’s heritage and focus on regional products.
December 2013 marked Tocco’s return to Strategic Hospitality as the company beverage director, in which his first task was to develop the cocktail list of the city’s first alternative social club, Pinewood Social. Mirroring the overall all-American focus of the new concept, the cocktail menu is outfitted with a seasonally changing selection of classic cocktails, each made with house-made bitters, syrups and juices and chiseled ice from the bar area’s 300-pound Clinebell ice block. Since then, Tocco has also developed cocktail menu’s for other Strategic Hospitality properties, including the Midtown bar and restaurant Le Sel, as well as the seasonal menu changes and ongoing staff training at Pinewood Social, The Patterson House, and more.
